Golf Cart video shoot

We (@kylekutter, @31films, @clayhestilow) are working on a new commercial The Ark Church entitled, "Faith. Hope. Love.", that will be released this fall. One of shots for this 30 second commercial needed a runner and we thought of only one guy, Rob King (@robking7). So here we are with a golf cart, steady cam, Canon 5D and a piece of rope to make this shot possible.

My Workstation

The zone that I call my desk is a place that I seem to spend a lot of time at so I try to maximize the looking/working area. Since the iPad I have made a couple revisions to my layout and equipment. Here is a snapshot and link to the products used.

iPad Check-In Round 2

So the second week of iPad check-in with Fellowship One was definitely easier.

Since this Sunday was our "Move Up Sunday" (where all the kids migrate up to their next class/grade) I stood by 2 self checkin stations so when there was a correction to be made or a visitor to be added I could quickly do so on my iPad. The typing got a lot easier and I became even more comfortable on the use of the device and software together.

I look forward to the multi-tasking option in the new OS so that every time I need to jump out of the WinAdmin app I can come right back to where I was instead of re-connecting to the computer (Dell Server running Windows 2003 Server). I found myself wanting to jump out of the app to hit www.fellowshipone.com to make corrections to a household or visitor (we are still experiencing some of that from the migration from ACS) to get our data integrity 100%.

Overall I think this is a great movement for check-in. Now if I could get a wireless printer that could strap to my belt I would be in great shape. Then nothing would hold me back from checking in people on the golf carts as they ride in, on plaza as they walk up, or anywhere else on site.

Another One Bites The Dust

It seems I keep seeing more and more closings of the traditional movie rental stores. I would imagine with the growing use of the online rentals like Netflix or the $1 redbox units that are EVERYWHERE a high priced storefront is hard to keep open. Though we might see less and less of these type of stores I do hope they keep some open to get the rare and classics movies that the reboxes don't stock. And I am not talking about those random independant films that Cuba Gooding Jr does. Redbox has plenty of those.

If you are an avid movie buyer I would recommend that you stop by the Movie Gallery location in Willis, TX. Everything is like 30% off.

iPad Check-In with Fellowship One

Ok, so just to be clear. There is not a app for Fellowship One Check-In, even though I think it would be a great add to the software and the functionality. This is the work around to get the PC only software to work with an Apple product.

So we used the iPad app "WinAdmin" (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/winadmin-sale/id284963046?mt=8) for $7.99 to remote desktop into the computer located inside of one of our mobile kiosks with the printer sitting on top. I would totally recommend locking the screen in horizontal mode.

It was a little scary at first on how fast I was going to be able to type, while listing to the visitor and add a household/individual and then check in them. I easily got the rhythm of it and with the help of our Visitor Center volunteers we were rockin'. Several people did stop me during the check-in process and where like "WOW" or "What is that". I love when we can maximize technology for ministry work. I was not able to get the F1 check in app to fill the screen of the iPad (see the picture). One option is the pinched zoom look that iPad offers but because the screen would move with your finger swipes when going through the check-in process I decided against it. The response of the touch screen integrating with the WinAdmin app and just typing was great compared to a couple other apps we have tried.

For the future my plan is to buy the black Apple case that will allow me to set it at any table or kiosk and angle the iPad perfect for typing along with protection. Otherwise I will be holding it and typing with one finger.

Time Keeps On Slippin'

This message is from the POST Network's Sunday night service on April 25, 2010 by Raymond Turner:

Time Keeps on Slippin’

BIG Question:  “Where is your heart?”

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.” -Matthew 6:21

Da Word:  Psalm 90….
“Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop a heart of wisdom.”

What do I want my DASH to keep speaking of me?
  • That’s all that someone who walks by will know of us; but what about the treasures we are storing up in Heaven?  What are we investing into the lives of others that will outlast us?
  • Begin to evaluate our days, goals and priorities in light of “the dash.”

Who OWNS me and MY DAYS?
  • “Pay careful attention, then to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—making the most of the time, because the days are evil.  So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” -Ephesians 5: 15-17
  • Question isn’t “God, what will You have me to do with the rest of my life,” but “what would You have me do TODAY?”

How will I handle the INTERRUPTIONS?
  • “My whole life I have been complaining that my work was constantly interrupted, until I discovered the interruptions were my work.”  -Henri Nouwen
  • Will you live your days AWAKE?

That’s why Moses ended Psalm 90 with “Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish for us the work of our hands—establish the work of our hands!”

GROUP TALK Questions
  1. What is the busiest thing about your life right now?  Why are you giving it so much time/ attention?
  2. How do you handle interruptions (situations or people)?  How can you see them differently?
  3. What would change in your life if you were to truly “number your days?”  How drastic would it be and what’s keeping you from changing it?

The Resurrection, Tupac, and How to Start A Religion

This message is from the POST Network's Sunday night service on March 28th by Raymond Turner

The Resurrection, Tupac, and How to Start A Religion

"For if the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised.  And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.  Therefore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished.  If we have placed our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone."  I Cor. 15:16-19

#I.  Don't show any signs of DOUBT!

#2.  Don't have WOMEN SHOW UP first!

#3.  Get all of the LIES STRAIGHT first!

CONSPIRACY THEORIES (Tupac is alive!!)
I. Mater Conspiracy
"Say this: 'His disciples came during the night and stole Him while we were sleeping.'" (Matt. 28:13)
2. Swoon Theory
3. Judas Theory
4. Acid Trip Theory
"He appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve.  Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time, most of whom remain to the present..." (I Cor. 15:5-6)

GroupTalk
1.  If you were (or are) an unbeliever, or believed in other gods, which of the conspiracy theories would appeal to you?  Why?  Can you come up with another possible theory to explain this miracle?
2.  What questions have you had (or have) about the main passage (I Cor 15:16-19)?
3.  What does the resurrection mean to your life now?  What are some things (or areas) that God has resurrected in your life?

More than a clean car

There is a deep joy that I get when after spending $5 and a few minutes with a free vacuum and some wet rags I can create a feeling that I am driving my 2000 VW Passat off the dealership lot for the first time.

A couple tricks I do to maintain a clean car:
-while pumping gas take advantage of the trash cans by the pumps
-also at the pump grab those mats and give them a little shake
-a wet rag to some tinted windows can spruce up any vehicle's look
-air freshener goes a long way and it keeps the illusion that you just got it cleaned. My fav is "new leather"

New Kroger Marketplace comes to Willis

So today I noticed the sign for the new Kroger Marketplace coming to Willis at the Northwest intersection of I-45 and FM 1097. I am so excited. The manager at the current Kroger says that this new concept store will have a large variety of natural and organic selections. Anything would beat the 3 mini aisles and half freezer they have at the current Willis location. He also said it will also sell appliances, jewelry, some clothes and will be over 100,000 sq feet of shopping space. It is schedule to open May-July of 2011. Can't wait!
