iPad Check-In with Fellowship One

Read the “iPad Check-In Explained” blog post at http://www.kylekutter.com/fellowship-one-ipad-check-in-explained/
This was a post I made on my old blog from May 30, 2010:

So the second week of iPad check-in with Fellowship One was definitely easier.

Since this Sunday was our “Move Up Sunday” (where all the kids migrate up to their next class/grade) I stood by 2 self checkin stations so when there was a correction to be made or a visitor to be added I could quickly do so on my iPad. The typing got a lot easier and I became even more comfortable on the use of the device and software together.

I look forward to the multi-tasking option in the new OS so that every time I need to jump out of the WinAdmin app I can come right back to where I was instead of re-connecting to the computer (Dell Server running Windows 2003 Server). I found myself wanting to jump out of the app to hit www.fellowshipone.com to make corrections to a household or visitor (we are still experiencing some of that from the migration from ACS) to get our data integrity 100%.

Overall I think this is a great movement for check-in. Now if I could get a wireless printer that could strap to my belt I would be in great shape. Then nothing would hold me back from checking in people on the golf carts as they ride in, on plaza as they walk up, or anywhere else on site.

    Hi Kyle,
Thanks for all of the info that you have posted. We are getting ready to move into our first permanent facility, after 9 years of being portable, and we want to start using iPads for our kids check-in. I understand that by using WinAdmin we are connecting the iPad to a PC. Do you know if we can connect more than one iPad to the same PC or do we need one iPad per PC?
Any info that you can give me would be great! Thanks!!

Erin, Thanks for the comment. I asked our IT Director (Nate Saffle) to reply with the technical details of how we are setting up the multiple iPad check-in on one box. Excited to see you guys get a building. We were a mobile church for many years in the past. Wish we would have had this option back then.

    Hi Erin!

Our setup connects to a Windows Server machine that allows multiple concurrent connections. We are also planning on sharing printers from multiple locations so that the individual iPads can “choose” which printer they’d like to print to. If you want to contact me regarding the setup, feel free to email me and I’ll get the rest of my contact info to you. Thanks!

Great to see apps that are helping ministry. Visit our website to see how many others are using the iPad in ministry at http://www.ipadinministry.com

Thanks for sharing this. We’re looking at options for expanding our checkin procedures. One of them is to use ipads. So you do have multiple iPads connected to a single server? Could you advise on the best way to do this? Ideally we would like half a dozen devices connected to the checkin system.

Also, Zebra now have a wireless printer for your belt, Zebra QL320 Hip Printer:

    Not cheap but pretty neat.

    God bless

Hey there. Where did you get the podium in the picture you posted above? I can’t find anything I like that can hold the iPad. Let me know your thoughts whenever you can.

hey drew, are you referring to the podium with the zebra printer and the iPad on it? that podium are our “mobile kiosks” that we have had since we moved into the building. it doesn’t necessarily hold the iPad in any certain way. Let me know if we could help anymore.
